The exhibition "Sleeping Giants" presents photographer Kristján Maack's personal perspective on global warming and other climate changes in the world. He has also published two notable books. In one of them, he explores the volcano Þríhnúkagígur in a remarkable way, delving into the beauty and geological significance of this powerful natural phenomenon. The book has received much praise and is considered to provide good insight and a deeper understanding of the forces that shape Iceland's dramatic landscape.
These photos presented at Reykjavík Museum of Photography depict glacial formations, which the exhibition's title refers to – breathtaking and frightful at the same time. „The sliding glaciers are the outposts of a glacier." Icelandic glaciers are disappearing. If you look deep into the core of a glacier, you can find everything that once existed: atmosphere, water, dust, flora, and even the smallest particles of the universe. All of this is stored in nature’s freezer.

Kristján Maack graduated from the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California, in 1993. He has since worked as a photographer, working for companies, advertising agencies, and publishing houses in Iceland and beyond.
