RECOMMENDED: Sunna Margrét in conversation with author R. Michael Hendrix, presented by Two Beats Ahead / 2026.02.11. 🎤 🇮🇸

Check out artist, songwriter, and label founder Sunna Margrét in conversation with author R. Michael Hendrix at Huldunótur, above Space Odyssey in downtown Reykjavík, on February 11 at 18:00.

Sunna Margrét is an Icelandic artist and songwriter whose work has earned international recognition for its blend of experimental pop, electronic textures, and strong melodic structure. Her debut album Finger on Tongue received widespread critical acclaim, with The Quietus describing it as “oddball Icelandic pop that packs a dense punch, heavy with ideas.”

Sunna describes her music as defiant, saying: “Many of the songs are a confrontation with the wrongs of the world and a release of pent-up energy.” She explains, “I have a strong sense of justice, and I don’t ever want to stop fighting.”

This perspective underpins Sunna’s belief in art as a form of resistance—a principle that shapes both her solo practice and her work as a label founder. In 2019, she co-founded No Salad Records with her partner, Stéphane Kropf. The vinyl-focused DIY label, based in Lausanne, Switzerland, operates as a curatorial platform rather than a genre-driven imprint, releasing work unified by artistic intent, independence, and experimentation. The catalogue spans lo-fi, punk, avant-rock, and experimental pop, reflecting Sunna’s view of music as both cultural production and counterculture.

Interviewer, R. Michael Hendrix, is the co-author of Two Beats Ahead: What Musical Minds Teach Us About Innovation, written with Panos A. Panay, President of the Recording Academy. The book examines how artists apply their creative minds broadly beyond their art, and how everyone can learn from them.

Join us for a live Two Beats Ahead LIVE! podcast recording exploring Sunna Margrét’s solo career, her curatorial approach to music-making, and how independent label-building can operate as an extension of artistic practice.

The event is free and all are welcome.

Huldunótur is located above Space Odyssey Experimental Music Space, across from Kaffibarinn.
