Icelandic songstress Soffía Björg hails from rural Borgarfjörður, a fjord just up north from the Reykjavik capital. Soffía Björg’s debut album, where said musical palette is on display, was recorded in Iceland, at Studio Sundlaugin (‘The Swimming Pool’).
Soffía Björg is one of eight siblings from the farm Einarsnes, just outside Borgarnes. Music has always been a strong part of the household, and this large group often gets together, sings and plays music. Her mother is Björg Karitas Jónsdóttir, a soprano, and her grandmother is Soffía Karlsdóttir, an actress and singer. Her father, Óðinn Sigþórsson, likes to play the ukulele, piano and guitar.
„It's folk pop music but also a bit of country music. With another band, Brother Grass, I've played old Southern songs, but that style suits me very well. I'm so melancholic, my songs and lyrics are colored by that. I have a hard time defining this music, but from a young age I've always looked up to Eric Clapton. I was fascinated by the melody and lyrics in his songs. I think my first influences came from him. As I got older, I've gone into a wide range of music. I learned to play the guitar five years ago and have trained myself through the songs I'm writing,” - explains Soffía Björg.
Björg released her album The Company You Keep in the second half of 2022. It is the second album by her, who burst onto the scene in 2017 with her well-received debut album.
