A NEW VIEW OF ICELANDIC HISTORY
The influence of the Celts on the Icelandic language and culture has long been a subject of interest for Þorvaldur Friðriksson, who here discusses this remarkable aspect of our history with passion.
Recent genetic analysis shows that more than half of the Icelandic settlers were Celts. Many words and place names in the language can be traced back to the Celts. Mountains, fjords, valleys, coves, districts and counties are adorned with Celtic names. Icelandic domestic animals, birds, fish and flowers have names that are not Norse but Celtic. The pronunciation of the Icelandic language is not Norse but Celtic.
It also discusses Celtic Christianity and the first cave painting found in Iceland, an icon in Papa Cave that predates the Norse settlement.
This book is therefore very newsworthy.
