Inga Magnes Weisshappel
Studied Music Composition at Listaháskóli Íslands. Music editor: Music Supervisor and Publishing Manager at Wise Music Iceland.
„After working as a music editor in film score production, Inga turned to music supervision where she oversees all music related aspects of film, television and other existing visual media platforms as required. In the past year she has gradually expanded the position inside the local industry, which before her was non-existent, with great success. Being a graduated music composer herself gives her the opportunity of bringing a unique amount of creativity to every project. Additionally, Inga is running the day-to-day business of the newly founded music publishing office Wise Music Iceland that specialises in international networking and expansion.” - www.keychange.eu
„Music in films has become much more important than before and is about more than just composing the music. There are many other things to think about," says Inga Magnes Weisshappel, who was recently hired as a "music supervisor" at the international company Wise Music Group. The job involves overseeing the music in films, television shows or commercials. Jobs like this have long been part of the industry in the United States, the United Kingdom and elsewhere, but Inga is probably the first working "music supervisor" in Iceland. She says it is a big step for the Icelandic music scene and could help to promote Icelandic musicians even better in the international film market.” - www.mbl.is
Sóley Stefánsdóttir
Icelandic multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. Studied classical and jazz style piano, later composition at the Icelandic Art Academy.
A piano album composed and performed entirely by Sóley, entitled Krómantík, was released on 18 July 2014 along with sheet music and illustrations to accompany each of the pieces.
„Sóley started her career in the Icelandic indie scene, but emerged as a fully-fledged musician with her 2010 album Theatre Island, where she created an atmosphere with references to Erik Satie and classical minimalism. More albums followed with similar emphases and received international attention, which allowed Sóleyja to travel the world and play her music. Mother Melancholia is her latest product and strikes a new tone. The album is highly original and in fact one long meditation on the state of the world, which alternates between being beautiful and horrific, or as Sóley herself describes it on her website: “The album starts in the morning and ends in the evening. The music flows beautifully in characteristic chapter divisions, where Sóleyja’s experimental works are mixed with melodic and uplifting song sections. This epic and courageous journey has received much praise both in Iceland and abroad.
Her second LP, Ask the Deep, was released on 8 May 2015. Sóley's third LP, Endless Summer, was released in May 2017. Sóley's fourth and latest album, Mother Melancholia, was released in 2021. The album is wrapped in an experimental feminist satire of patriarchy and won the award for Album of the Year in the open category at the Icelandic Music Awards, and received three other nominations for Composition of the Year, Album Cover of the Year, and Music Video of the Year. Mother Melancholia was also chosen as Album of the Year by the music critic Morgunblaðið and by the Reykjavík Grapevine music awards. It was then selected for the Kraumslistann of the best albums of the year 2021. The album was nominated for the Nordic music prize, while Sóley was also nominated for the Nordic music council prize for the same work.” - www.norden.org
