The origins of today's ART COLOGNE as a trade fair for classic modern art, post-war art and contemporary art go back to the 1960s.

The original German title for Art Cologne was Kunstmarkt Köln. It was founded with this name in 1967 by gallery owners Hein Stünke and Rudolf Zwirner. The name was later changed to Internationaler Kunstmarkt (IKM) before finding its current name, ART COLOGNE, in 1984.
