FAR Fest Afríka Festival is a music and culture festival that is held every year in September in the city of Reykjavík. FAR Fest Africa was founded by Cheick Ahmed Tidiane Bangoura, with the assistance of Kristín Árnadóttir, in 2009 and has been led by Cheick ever since.
At FAR Fest Afríka, the emphasis is on introducing African music, dance and culture to Icelandic society, where everyone gets the opportunity to enjoy, dance, sing, play and learn together.
Africa is a big continent with many nations and FAR gives all Icelanders the opportunity to get to know the diverse arts and cultures of Africa, gives African-Icelanders (of various national origins) a place and time to enjoy their own culture and share it with Icelandic friends, fellow travelers and others and in that way reinforce the values of collaboration, arts, culture and the values of our society.
FAR Fest Africa also emphasizes cooperation with Icelandic artists and Nordic collaboration between musicians and music and dance teachers, which thereby participates in educational, artistic and cultural development, through cooperation, by sharing ideas and knowledge and inspire each other.
FAR Fest Afríka Festival works with kindergartens and elementary schools, teachers' departments in the field of art education and senior citizens.
FAR Fest Afríka Festival is now celebrating its 16th anniversary.
